North Korea envoy presents credentials to President

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau re-affirmed Fiji’s commitment to fully implementing the Charter, including returning the country to democratic governance.

His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau this morning received the credentials of the Ambassador for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to Fiji, His Excellency Ri Jong Ryul.

President Nailatikau welcomed the DPRK’s efforts to widen and strengthen its diplomatic relations. Fiji had established diplomatic relations with the DPRK since 1975.

Ambassador Ryul conveyed the well wishes of the DPRK’s Leader Kim Jong-il and noted that Fiji has become successful with its efforts to re-build the country and work towards greater prosperity. He said that the DPRK fully supports Fiji with its efforts which are clearly articulated in the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau re-affirmed Fiji’s commitment to fully implementing the Charter, including returning the country to democratic governance. He said some of the activities in the Charter are ahead of schedule, and that Fiji is very optimistic about achieving its goals.

Ambassador Ryul said the DPRK would like to extend its relations beyond diplomacy and to include trade and a host of other areas.

The President Ratu Epeli and Ambassador Ryul agreed to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
